My First Deer Hunt

It's that time of year....most people see snow, feel the cold weather, they think christmas. But not me, I think hunting. As I told you in my last post, on the 13th I went deer hunting with my brother Chris. So we got up at 2:30 am on December 13th, I put on a pot of java, and we threw on out layers of hunting clothes. Befor we leave we packed the truck, poured our java, and got on the road. The point where we hunt, it's about a half hour drive, so we put on some music to wake us up. We got to coralville about 3:15 or so and ended up running into our uncle and friends close to the family. Turns out that they were pushing across the street from where we are huntin. At this time we are sitting in the truck because shooting time isnt until seven am and it was about three am, so i poped a dvd in my portable dvd player, and we watched that. The movie ended around six am, so we turned it off, we finished putting on the warmer clothes that we woulda been to hot in befor, got out our guns, wrapped it around my shoulder, and started walking. The spot where we were hunting was about a two mile walk. So we continued walking and arived at our spot at about a quator till seven, loaded our guns, and sat. We sat for about two hours befor we figured out....nothing was going to walk our way. So about the time we get up and start walking, close to about one hundred yards from the truck, I saw about fifteen doe, about seventy-five yards from us running. So me eager to shoot, tried a poke nd hope, totaly missing. We got back to the truck unloaded our gungs and left to a new spot. We pulled up in this little area right next to private land. So we got out loaded our guns and walked down to the field. But I stop and look up only to see the beautiful site of fifteen deer with one huge buck walking around. I stay down, slowly walt twords them, and some how must have spooked them, so Chris pulled off a shot missing them. As we turned to go back to the truck, We look up, and aout ten yards away in a tree, was a hunter who had his eye on those deer that we just spooked away. Man I'v never felt so bad before. So once again we got outta there. But this time on the way back to out truck, there was a red truck heading twords us, Chris looked up and it was a guy he worked with. They got three that day and had been driving to east to do a push, and they invited us so we tagged along. We get to the area where we were going to push and took our spots. Woody and Will started first push twords me and Chris. About twenty-five minutes or so after they started. A good sized doe pops out of the willows right next to Chris. So as your supposed to do, he shot at the deer four times. We gather up and Chris says he believed he hit it, he knew he did. Not to long after, we here a gun shot coming from Jerries way in the distance. so we begin second push twords Jerrie. A long walk and We saw nothing for the couple of miles we walked. We get to Jerrie, and he points and say I got one, So me and Chris walk to where he dropped the deer, and enspect it. There were two holes. Chris asks Jerrie, "how many times did you shoot it"? Jerrie replies "just one, why" Turns out the deer jerrie killed was the same deer Chris wounded. SO me and Chris field dressed the deer and started pulling it back, it was a lllooonnnggg pull back. After about thirty minutes of pulling it back, Chris decided he wanted to get back and go get some food. So he threw the 150 lbs deer (ungutted) over his shoulders and walked the rest of the way back. We got back and let Woody put hit doe only lag on the deer and we went home. By the time we got home it was about 5:45 pm. After thinking about it, we were out walking the woods drenched with water and sweat for around twelve hours. After i got cleaned up, the only thing to come to mind was sleep, and I sure did get it. Feel free to comment with questions or expierence of your own.
