FISHING

I finally got the chance to grap my poles and fish. I was told that Northern Pike were down already, and a great spot to go to catch those is the 5-1 damns. So after a while I got my girlfriend to get down there after her CPR cirtification class for school. I wasn't catching much, just a few little ones here and there. For about 45 minutes I sat there waiting and hoping for a bite and yet nothing.
After sitting there in bordium for a while, I thought it would be funny to kinda get rocks, grabbed it out of the water only to see that the fish was a 12 lbs flathead catfish. It was not northern pike like what I was hopeing for, but still, it was a big fish.my brother Chris's heart going, so I slightly kicked his pull. And of course, he dove for it, only to find out that that was not bite but yet me kickin the pole. So to get me back, he kicked my pole over and he said "now if your pole stands up, you know you have a bite". And not even joking, just a few seconds after that was said. My pole stood up on the railing. So I grabbed my pole, gave it a jerk, and started realing in.
After about 45 minutes or so of fighting the fish in. I brought it up to the the rocks to see that it was not a northern pike like what I was hopeing for, but a 12 lb flathead catfish. I still got a good fish and had a hell of a time fighting it.

Turnout to First Trap Meet

On Saturday, the team and I met up at the best shooting range in Cedar Rapids. The name is Otter Creek. There was a trap shooting meet there which over 14 squads attended. For my practice round I shot a 20/25. Than I had to shoot at the 16 yds, and I shot a 22/25. I was really hoping for perfection there. Than I had to move back to 19 yds. That felt a little easier, but my score says it wasn't. After I emptied out my pockets of empty shells and ran to my girlfriend to grab my new shells, I worked up a bit of a sweat, and with the high moisture in the air and the heat from my head, it fogged over my glasses. So I do lay some blame for my horrible 17/25 on that.

T-shirts previews came in and they will be sending us the box of shirts this Friday. When I get the chance, I will take a picture and put it one here. I hope to see people getting outdoors and enjoying their time. Don't be afraid to pick up a shotgun and shoot some clay.

Trap Shoot'n

So about a month and a half ago, my school started up a trap shooting team. When I heard about this team I thought okay cool I love to shoot and know how to.....so why not? So I went to the first team meeting, and saw that it looked to be fun. I took the trap shooting safty test, passed it on my first try. Than I started getting real into it, helped make shooting times and the place. Than the time came to shoot. We met out at Isac Walten which is a local outdoor club. We didn't have the key to the trap house so we had to throw ourselfs, which is never that bad but we didnt have but 90 clay birds. So we each got 15 shots. That day i shot 12/15, but that was just a meet and shoot just to mingle and talk around. The second day we got to use the trap house and shot competition style. If you dont know whenyou shoot that style, there are 5 rows, 5 shooters, 25 shots each. You start out in one spot and you shoot, than the next 5 shooters shoot, than you go again. And you do that till you go through five shells the puller will say DEAD AND CHANGE, than means you empty your gun, open your chamber and move over to the next spot. Than you do the same thing and you do it till you've shot at all 5 spots.

Well the second time we shot, I shot 2nd place with an 18/25 following a fellow shooter with 19/25. I felt shameless and down for haveing to fallow by one shot. So on April 1st, we shot again and I again came in 2nd place. But yet I was very happy to say i out shot the last weeks 1st shooter by three shots. But once again, got let down by a guy who shot a 24/25 compaird to my 21/25. I do see improvement and hope I will keep seeing it. We have one more practice before we start publicly competing two wednesdays from now.
